Cannes. Putting aside my personal pet peeve of how many people mispronounce the word, it describes one of the most elegant and glamorous places on earth. The south of France is magic. I once stayed in Antibes, spent time in Nice and Monte Carlo. I will never forget the nautical ambiance, the rocky shorelines against a turquoise sea and the sinful effect of the wine that mellows your senses long past the sunset.
The sure things that always come back to me every time I remember my stay however, are the immaculately groomed streets, lawns, buildings and harbourfronts. The grass appears as if a loyal caretaker was constantly cutting with a pair of scissors- one blade at a time. Such careful grooming is reflective of the stars who arrive for film premieres this week. Although we are only in the midst of the festival by the time this is posted, I truly believe we have seen the best dressed already. She happens to be a Toronto native and our Canadian cutie, Rachel McAdams.
McAdams chose an stunning red lace Marchesa to wear to the premiere of Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris. Her doll-like, perfectly styled yellow mane shone in the Riviera sunlight. She kept everything else simple in order to not detract attention away from the intricate lace detailing outlining the nude mesh. To me the beauty of Marchesa and its truly amazing craftsmanship is in danger of being overshadowed by its popularity as a brand. Hollywood starlets flock to Marchesa frocks and it has become an almost safe choice as we realize that 75% of the attendees at the biggest awards shows all rock the label. BUT, PEOPLE!- Ms. McAdams' arrestingly beautiful Marchesa owned the carpet and hopefully we can all see past the increasing commercialization of the brand and focus on why it is so popular in the first place... because its gorgeous!
