Caution! Studs Ahead

I have long considered studs immature, very "Avril Lavigne" (clearly not a fan) and a fashion faux-pas to completely avoid at all costs- try as I might I could never consider myself bad-ass enough to rock the heavy metal adornment. One thing is for sure this fall that I have come to grips with- ANYONE can rock the studs and we are finding them in unlikely places. Footwear designed by Louboutin, Givenchy, Fendi, Hugo Boss (Menswear) and others all unveiled "slam-on-the-brakes"-worthy shoe designs with serious attitude- attitude of the more mature kind, all in perfect timing to compliment the raging biker-chic trend of this fall and winter's collections. The main idea here is to refrain from pounding the pedal to the metal and over-doing it Avril style, with studs on belts, tops, lining pockets of pants, at the risk of looking too teenage and angst-ridden. The sophistication of today's stud obsession is apparent as a result of emphasizing a select number of areas; such as on the shoes and maybe even on the lining of a collared top or dress. Of course, the green light is an absolute GO! with a generously studded oversize bag or small satchel. With discretion and good navigational skills, you're rocking the cruise control when it comes to this smoking hot trend.
The seduction of the stud on footwear has not only overpowered the well-heeled fashion sect but upon the shoulders, collars and cuffs of models on the runways of Givenchy especially. See below- the red geometric shaped studded cream blazer. (Can you tell by now that I am completely head over heels for Givenchy's couture fall 2009 line?! I have been for most of this year after getting to know it off by heart earlier in the year). Great Constantine- the unbelievable Canadian design duo created a stud-inspired backless dress, (Below). Even most recently at this week's London Fashion Week (currently in full swing), we see emblazoned jackets with all kinds of stud shapes toughening up even the preppiest of looks with their bad-boy persona. 1. I swear, I have a British Vogue spread with the Givenchy and Prada studded heels stuck on my wall. Now if only I could actually afford them...!
